Description:

The media forum is a youth-led initiative that is funded by the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) and coordinated in partnership by the Ethnic Youth Council (EYC) and the Multicultural Multifaith Youth Network (MMYN).

The purpose of the forum is to increase awareness of the impact of racial vilification; and to empower and encourage marginalised young people to have a greater voice in the media on an ongoing basis. The program includes visual presentations, a panel discussion, a debate and an opportunity for participants to contribute to a table discussion on the subject.

Further details on speakers & panelists will be updated shortly.

Anthony Improgo Filipino?

29 08 2008

first time i saw Metro Station’s music video for Shake It.. i notice an asian guy in the band.. it was the drummer.. but i couldn’t really confirm it becuase they didn’t really focus on the drummer..

anyways, i was just wandering around Wikipedia again & thought of doing a bit of research on Metro Station.. then that’s how i found out the name of their drummer.. Anthony Improgo.. first impression..?? it sounds like a Filipino name..!!! hahahaha… then did a li’l search on google.. some random youtube vid was also shown on the search results… then his face was right up there.. & he does look filipino!!

i did another search using a different keyword.. “anthony improgo filipino“.. then found a link.. visit it!! http://answers.yahoo.ca/question/index?qid=20080828161717AAboEep

is it really true..?? don’t know.. hehehe… not really a fan of Metro Station.. hahaha… so if there’s any fan out there who truly knows the band.. please give us some info about their drummer… hahaha…

I wanna sing!

27 08 2008

man, since Musica Waraynon was up & running again… i started listening to my collection again.. & added my favourite waraynon songs in my iPod.. hahaha…

anyways, what’s cool about waraynon songs..?? the language.. or dialect if you want to… it’s totally different from tagalog songs.. tagalog language is widely used in the music industry.. which sometimes makes it kinda boring.. tagalog isn’t as complex as waraynon or bisaya songs.. waraynon words has a wide range of words.. it depends on which one use.. hehehe.. one word in english could be translated into a sad or funny word in waray-waray.. & in many ways…

back to the songs… La Familia’s song Bulos is one of the best hip-hop/rap songs i’ve ever heard.. it has the quality to attract international audience.. it is purely on waraynon language.. the production style is similar to those international hip-hop/rap acts… it’s totally different from hip-hop/rap songs that you’ll hear in manila’s music scene.. i first heard of Bulos in Manurumat… it was the first tv documentary in Tacloban which was the idea of my friend, Sir Randy Oledan.. i think the song is searchable in imeem..

one of my favourites is SquaredBox’s song Bagats.. it’s a mix of funk/rock/reggae/rap.. it’s actually a funny song.. of which i think a tagalog band wouldn’t be able to come up with.. it is the most catchiest song that i had ever heard… everytime i listen to it.. it makes me wanna song.. but i don’t wanna embarass my self.. hahaha…

of course, who wouldn’t forget CampoXanto.. that great band that came from Tacloban City.. winner of the Redhorse Muziklaban who was offered a recording contract with EMI.. but they didn’t actually give that contract..  but the band was still able to record demos from the prize money they got from the said band competition… their song Balangiga 1901 is well known to activists musicians..

there’s also Playphonics.. a band that is now in the manila music scene.. for those who doesn’t know them.. they started in Tacloban City… their former bassist, Bryan Vermug, was actually the brother of my former choirmate… he is also a known musician in Tacloban City… Playphonics has cool music.. chill rock.. hahaha..

Black Sheep Alliance is one of the well known bands in Tacloban City… i just love their music.. hehehe… the vocalist is really flexible.. from grunge to reggae.. he can do it.. & the band members are also flexible..

Eye-Me & the Royal SKAvengers was a hit in Manila during the Redhorse Muziklaban.. they were the only ska-punk band that was in the competition.. but i don’t know what happened to this guys now.. all I know is that 2 of the members formed Piyesa.. the vox & the guitarist.. they also got into the Redhorse Muziklaban just a year after a successful stint from the previous Muziklaban..

Bleak & Harang are both metal bands in Tacloban… nice lyrics & songs.. they could go head-to-head with bands that are in manila…

back then, i really had no much knowledge about the music scene in Tacloban.. aside from CampoXanto.. their bassist was a brother of my classmate back in high school.. thankfully Musica Waraynon was set up for worldwide audience..

there are new cool bands out there.. hopefully i get some copies of their songs..
